Costa Palmas: Where Luxury Living Meets the Serenity of the Sea

Costa Palmas, nestled on the East Cape of Los Cabos, Mexico, boasts a collection of luxurious residential properties. Among the first homes constructed on the property is the residence of developer Jason Grosfeld and his wife, jewelry designer Jenna Blake Grosfeld. “The ocean was a central inspiration, guiding both our color palette and the connection to the surrounding natural environment,” Jenna explains. “For me, I wanted the design to feel like an extension of the sea. Whether it’s the ocean here in Mexico or anywhere else, it instantly puts you in vacation mode. The color palette was essential in creating the relaxed and serene atmosphere we envisioned.”

Luxury homes are often built in breathtaking yet disaster-prone locations such as coastal areas, forests, and mountains. As climate-related disasters—hurricanes, wildfires, and earthquakes—become more frequent and costly, architects are tasked with designing structures that balance aesthetics with resilience.

With last year’s hurricane season causing over $300 billion in damages and disasters like Hurricane Harvey and California wildfires destroying thousands of homes, the demand for disaster-resistant architecture is rising. Designer James Ramsey highlights the need for a shift in architectural thinking, stating that adapting to the changing world doesn’t have to mean sacrificing beauty—rather, it’s about being prepared.
